JOB SUMMARY

Promote small business programs and services and provide counselling services to aspiring and existing small business entrepreneurs.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (DELIVERABLES)

  • Advises small business entrepreneurs in business planning, marketing, financing and overall business strategies.
  • Responsible for front line client inquires and responding to small business inquiries.
  • Delivers education training programs on small business topics, and responsible for all aspects of events management.
  • Coordinates and implements marketing and outreach plans.
  • Provides input and assembles annual business plan including and analysis and consolidation of data.
  • Conducts annual customer surveys, workshop/event evaluation surveys.
  • Builds local small business advocacy networks of business associations.
  • Attends community and business meetings and makes presentations regarding small business programs.
  • Assists in delivery of government programs including but not limited to the Summer Company and Starter Company Programs
  • Maintains an inventory of resource material relevant to small business.
  • Supports overall City of Markham economic development initiatives.
  • Performs administrative duties as required.
  • Back fills for Manager in his/her absence.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Relevant University Degree.
  • 1-3 years related experience.
  • Previous experience with community service groups preferred.
  • Able and willing to work flexible hours, including one weekend and several evenings per month.
  • Own vehicle and valid driver’s licence
  • Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet Explorer
  • Marketing background is an asset.
  • Second language is an asset.

Working Conditions: Generally working in hybrid office setting with occasional visits to secondary schools and offsite to prepare and attend events, workshops and seminars.
