Reporting to the Commissioner of Planning & Building, you will set the strategic direction for the City’s economic development services and lead the implementation of the Economic Development Strategy. Working closely with Mayor, Council, and the City’s Leadership Team on larger goals and priorities, the Director will be an experienced leader with strong communication, decision-making, and interpersonal skills, with a thorough understanding of innovative best practices in economic development. You will be an exceptional team builder, have a track-record for results, and have a high degree of political acuity. You are a principal relationship developer with major prospects and senior executives in support of the Business Attraction and Business Retention programs. The Director, Economic Development will oversee the City’s expansion of its economic development agenda to respond to the demands of the globally competitive knowledge-based economy.
The ideal candidate will come with a university degree in Business, Commerce, Economic Development, Urban Planning or a related degree. Working towards or having a valid Ec.D designation, and a minimum of ten years of economic development experience including five years in a senior management role. You have demonstrated your ability to network, develop relationships, and produce results.
