The Municipality of Brockton invites qualified applicants for the full-time position of Community Development Coordinator. The Community Development Coordinator provides coordination of Brockton’s community and business development activities and provides strategic planning and/or policy development that supports corporate marketing and communications, business and newcomer attraction and retention.

This position reports to the CAO/Clerk and will interact with all staff across the organization as necessary including participation with the Senior Management Team when projects and activities require interaction at that level.
Candidates must be self-motivated, flexible, exhibit superior time management capabilities have excellent written/oral communication and computer skills including but not limited to; word processing and social media technology.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Completion of a community focused Business Retention and Expansion study under the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs guidelines.
  • Resource with local partners to develop, Facilitate and maintain partnerships with local and regional economic planning initiatives.
  • Work towards the implementation of the recommendations contained within the Economic Development Committee’s Action Plan and once completed the Economic Develop Strategic Plan.
  • Develop programs and initiatives to encourage and support attraction and retention of businesses, workforce fulfillment, including business transitions, agro business support and development.

  • Actively researches and develops innovative approaches and ideas for attracting and retaining businesses and improving the quality of life in Brockton.
  • Provides input into the Economic Development budget, prepare reports, make recommendations/presentations and attend Council/Committee (ie. Economic Development Committee and Community Improvement Committee), senior management, community groups, public and/or other meetings as required.
  • Coordinate business development research by collecting, collating and analyzing data pertinent to economic growth in the municipality and local areas; determine data relevance and recommend directions targeting various business sectors.
  • Support individuals and agencies to market and support the development of the East Ridge Business Park
  • Monitor, record and follow-up all inquiries and communications relative to business development, current business and new opportunities.
  • Play a key role in providing support for grant applications and review of funding opportunities.
  • Acts as an ambassador the community to live, work, play

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills Required:
  • Post-Secondary Degree in a related field including Marketing, Communications, Public Administration, Planning, Economics etc.
  • Minimum of two to three years direct experience in the field either in a public or private setting is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with elected officials, the development community, the public and peers across the sector.
  • Ability to work a flexible weekly schedule including participation in after-hours or weekend meetings and events both in the community and outside its boundaries.
  • Requires strong oral and written skills (tact, diplomacy, good judgment).
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines and ensure confidentiality of information.
