Economic Development Week
Economic Development Week (EDW) is an annual global celebration created by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) in 2016 to highlight the essential role economic development plays in building strong, resilient, and prosperous communities. Taking place May 4–8, 2026, EDW recognizes the professionals, organizations, and partners who drive economic opportunity and improve quality of life across regions.
While IEDC marks its 100 Years of Impact in 2026, Economic Development Week continues to serve as a platform for communities everywhere to reflect on progress, showcase current strengths, and champion the work shaping the future of economic development.
In Ontario, Economic Development Week is an opportunity to spotlight the province's leadership in economic growth, innovation, and community-building.
Municipalities, regional organizations, and local partners participate by sharing success stories, hosting events, and highlighting initiatives that strengthen their economies. These efforts underscore the importance of collaboration among businesses, governments, Indigenous communities, educational institutions, and economic development professionals.
Across Canada, Economic Development Week reinforces the vital role economic development plays in job creation, business growth, and long-term prosperity. Communities nationwide use this week to elevate the work being done to support entrepreneurs, attract investment, and build resilient local economies.
