Job Title: Economic Development Officer (EDO)

Job Status: Full-Time, Three-Year Contract Position

Salary: between $75,000 and $85,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

Located on the scenic shores of Lake Superior, the Municipality of Wawa is a very friendly, Northeastern Ontario town surrounded by an abundance of outdoor recreational activities. Wawa is a full-service community of 3,000 residents and has French and English schools, regional health centre, full-service community centre, public golf club, hiking trails, secret fishing spots and lots more to offer its residents. The Economic Development Officer (EDO) will lead and facilitate the coordination of Wawa’s economic, tourism and business development activities that have a measurable and positive return to the community. The position will implement proven tourism and business marketing initiatives, supporting special events, facilitate housing and business development and pursue sources of funding. The EDO will undertake evidence-based projects to improve the community, while supporting a growing mining and forestry sector. The position will work closely and support Indigenous, business and regional community partnership opportunities to reinforce that Wawa is the “Best Little Town to Live In Ontario’s Big North”.

Primary Job Responsibilities Includes:

  • Undertake economic strategies, policies, programs, investment attraction, business retention and expansion, partnerships and funding opportunities.
  • Implement the recommendations contained in the Downtown Wawa Community Improvement Plan, Wawa Tourism Plan and Housing Plan.
  • Facilitate business growth, job creation and investment by actively promoting the full range of support, information and advice available to investors.
  • Develop strong working relationships with economic development partners, associations, other levels of government and indigenous communities.
  • Support the Wawa EDTAC Committee, Council and staff, local business and others.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications Includes:

  • A Diploma/Degree in Economic Development, Business, Commerce, Land-Use Planning, Marketing, Public Administration or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an economic development, business. development, investment attraction, land-use planning, or marketing.
  • Knowledge of community economic development theories and practices.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.

Compensation Includes:

  • Rate of pay is between $75,000 and $85,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
  • Flexible schedule of up to 35 hours per week.
  • Optional enrolment in OMERS pension plan, training opportunities and more.
